Do You Take the Song "Paint It, Black" Too Literally—Time to Add Color!
We know the color “black” is super popular in most urban areas whether it is worn day or night. Black does wonders for trimming a figure and is appropriate for many occasions. But as women get older (which happens to us all), wearing ONLY black can create facial contrasts that calls attention to wrinkles or dark shadows around the eyes. Important advice: “add a bright accessory like a scarf or a statement necklace--any pop of color will lessen the washed-out effect, says Lauren Rothman, the founder of StyleAuteur.com and author of Style Bible: What to Wear to Work.”
She also suggests shopping for earthy neutrals--like cocoa, olive, camel or gray--which are subdued but still add contrast. Another color group that flatters most women is jewel tones. Jewel tones include saturated and more intense gemstone colors, think rubies, emeralds, sapphires and topaz! Here's a way to find which works best with your skin tone.

There are a number of ways to add color to your wardrobe….here are some tips:
- A great pair of earrings in a vibrant color will add sparkle to any look. Pick colors that compliment your skin tone. Everyone looks good in the right colorful pair of earrings.
- A statement necklace and/or bracelet will make you feel bold and beautiful! Select one to wear that not only will brighten up an outfit, but will also make you feel more confident.
- Colorful scarves in the evenings to brighten a little black dress or top. They can add color and provide added warmth when weather gets cooler during the evening hours.
- Accessorize with color whether it is a colorful handbag or scarf. Adding some color will make your outfit “pop”. Think about what works best on you with black—it could be a colorful Kilim cross-body bags, a larger fabric hand bag, a colorful scarf or a piece of Antika or Brass jewelry set with colorful semi-precious stones. Any one of these may be just the answer for you!
