Our Story

Beksan Designs was founded in 2011 by sisters Meyla Ruwin and Nevra Shapiro, who set out to build a family jewelry business that honored their unique heritage. Today, Meyla continues their shared vision from San Francisco, carrying forward the dream they built together.

Born in California to a Turkish mother from Istanbul and an American father who met at UCLA, the sisters grew up between two worlds spending time in both California and Istanbul. They named their company Beksan after their Turkish grandfather, whose surname carries deep family significance.

Their childhood visits to their grandmother in Istanbul shaped their creative vision. She often took them to the magnificent Topkapi Palace, which served as the main residence of Ottoman Sultans in the 15th and 16th centuries. The jewels in those royal collections sparked a passion that would eventually become their livelihood.
