Meet Meyla and Nevra

Beksan Designs was established in 2011 by sisters Meyla Ruwin and Nevra Shapiro. Although we were born in California, our childhood was also spent in Istanbul, Turkey. With a shared entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to establish a family business, we decided to merge our passion for jewelry with our unique cross-cultural background. To pay homage to our Turkish roots and family’s legacy, we named our new venture after our grandfather, whose surname was Beksan.

Inspired by the beauty and luxe of the Ottoman style, we wanted to combine that classic style with modern flair to appeal to the 21st Century woman. Our jewelry is stylish, sustainably sourced, high quality but still affordable. We want our customers to look and feel their best in Beksan Designs jewelry whether they’re making a run to the grocery store or traveling around the globe.

Meyla Ruwin: CEO and Co-Founder of Beksan Designs Jewelry and Accessories 2011 - Present

Jewelry and accessories designer, creating handcrafted pieces with gemstones and metals sourced in USA & Istanbul, Turkey. Our goal is to share our American-Turkish heritage through our unique designs. We work with mixed sustainable metals, semi-precious stones and share them through in-person & virtual trunk shows, wholesale to retail boutiques, and our online store/website.

Education: MA in Organization and Leadership, Masters in Public Health and previously an educator in Health, Physical Education and Science

Nevra Shapiro Bio: CFO and Co-Founder of Beksan Designs Jewelry and Accessories 2011 - Present

With a background in marketing and market research, she combines her skills to provide strategic planning, marketing, and business support. Two sisters, working together, designing meaningful jewelry and accessory collections so customers can look and feel their best.

Education: BA in Sociology

Previous work experience: CEO of Customer Connection, a full-service market research company that Nevra founded, for over 20 years.

GIVING BACK

"Giving Back" is one of our core values. We have donated a portion of our sales or profits at local events with non-profits or educational institutions and want to do MORE! Our handcrafted jewelry and accessories are a strong draw. We are available to be part of any type of fundraiser, such as Mom's Night Out, Holiday Boutiques, Mother & Daughter Tea etc.. and will donate a percentage of sales to your cause.
