Life Lesson ~ Silver Lining & Appreciation, Any New Habits?
Read an interesting article in the LA Times in May, “What New Habits Are Keepers?” during this difficult COVID-19 experience. People were asked to share in a sentence about a change they have made that they hope to keep up. We’re also including a couple of tips we’ve learned related to appreciation & gratitude.
Some of the new habits are:
“Carving out unstructured time to make art.” Lindsay 27, Koreatown, LA. One of my twin daughters has taken this on another level, she is cooking, making clothing, tie dying clothes, and creating beautiful photo collages. So cool!
“Take time to appreciate the slow growing plants.” Brian DeGeer 33, Long Beach.
“Walking more! Hitting 10k steps a day.” Miranda 27, LA. We have been loving nature and we are taking walks, hikes, bike rides and want to continue to do this for the rest of the year!
“Spending more time with family and less rushing around.” Annette 49, Montebello
“Gratitude. I didn’t realize what I had until I lost the freedom to do it all.” Laura 39, Pico Rivera
In fact, research has shown how valuable it is to start your day by journaling what you’re grateful for. You may ask what are the benefits? Gratitude journaling a) increases positivity, b) improves self-esteem, c) helps you sleep better, d) makes you happier, and e) reduces stress!

Making donations and giving back is another way we like to show our gratitude. With this pandemic, many people are out of work and hungry. From our recent virtual events, Beksan Designs donated 20% of our sales to Feeding America, Epiphany Center and Scholarship America and we will continue to donate!
